The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) on January 05, 2026, notified regarding the pollution in water bodies and encroachment on lakes, ponds, etc.
The Board has expressed serious concern over increasing pollution in rivers, lakes, ponds, and other water bodies, along with illegal encroachments on such public water resources. It has directed all concerned authorities and stakeholders to take immediate steps to prevent the discharge of untreated sewage, industrial effluents, and solid waste into water bodies. Local bodies and industries have been instructed to ensure proper treatment and disposal of waste as per environmental norms.
The notification also emphasizes the removal of unauthorized constructions and encroachments on lakes, ponds, and drainage channels to restore natural water flow and protect ecological balance. Strict compliance has been mandated, and violations may attract action under relevant environmental laws to safeguard public health and the environment.
